What are the Scope 1, 2, 3?
Scope 1: Direct emissions
These emissions come directly from your company. Imagine the emissions from the exhausts of your company cars or the smoke from the chimney in your factory. These are all things that your company directly "breathes" into the air.
Scope 2: Indirect energy emissions
It relates to emissions from the energy a company buys and uses, such as electricity. If your company consumes electricity, the emissions do not come from your company, but from the power plant that generates the electricity.
Scope 3: Other indirect emissions
Includes all emissions that are associated with your business but are not directly under your control. This can include everything from emissions from the production of the materials your company uses to emissions from employee commuting.
These three "Scopes" help companies better understand and manage their overall climate impact.
